As much as I love Gorey’s work, this book shows his tendency to return to the same wells one too many times. Which means, no body every “gets” me!! His father was briefly a journalist.

Makes me nostalgic for the days when we weren’t quite so ridiculously bloated with information and availability of things on the internet. Dust jacket chipped on front corners and head and tail of spine with minor loss.

Once upon a time we had every book of his all first editions and all signed. Not sure that I would recommend for a young child, but it was an interesting read. Gorey is a genius. Amphigorey Also Gorey, Edward Harcourt, I was enchanted and charmed.


Other books in the series. Not wanting to frighten off this rare and delicate creature.

I like how disjointed it is, but still comes together in the end. For people my age and a little older Gorey ‘s art work is also recognizable from the John Bellairs book. At times quite scary things occur, but gprey in many Gorey tales, don’t expect a conclusion Very Good Very Good Edition: Amphigorey Also is another stellar collection of Edward Gorey’s twisted art and stories.

What is wrong with me. If you admire Tim Burton, you will most likely enjoy Gorey’s work.

The story was a surprise and a delight if you can be delighted by a dark twist. There’s something beautiful and sinister about them.

Drawings of proper Edwardians and careful, polite commentary discuss such topics as child abuse, parental death, murder, hauntings, rotting bodies, perversions, ominous scary individuals, strange creatures, insanity, suicide, and religious excess.

We start thumbing through it, and pretty soon we are snorting with laughter, the tears are running down our cheeks and we are creating a disturbance in the store without intending to. The Doubtful Guest – typically cute and creepy and funny but not really horrific, in the setting of a country house; the classic image I have of Gorey.
